Llomerryn Nights (Chapter 3/3)

Chapter Three

Llomerryn was more beautiful than he remembered.

The sand was white and seemed to sparkle like diamonds under the sun. The water a gorgeous, deep, crystalline blue, lapping at the sand and people’s toes. The town bustled with people, vibrant with color and laughter and cheerful voices shouting to one another. The Rivaini people were beautiful and welcoming, as warm as their shores. Whenever Fenris thought he’d seen everything, Sebastian grabbed him by the elbow and pulled him in the direction of something new.

They ate lunch at a small restaurant on the beach. Fenris made a face as Sebastian ate his fish, and he laughed, holding out his fork with a bit of fried cod speared on the end. Fenris swatted his hand away, making a gagging noise that was purely theatrical. “Get it away from me,” Fenris said, “Ugh, it smells.”

“Fresh fish doesn’t have a smell,” Sebastian said. “Only rotten fish.”

“Well it must be rotten, then,” Fenris said. “Because it stinks.”

Sebastian chuckled and shook his head, but he kept his fish to himself.

The beach was where they spent their time, walking along the shore, leaving footprints that were swiftly erased by the tide. Sebastian bumped his hip against him and knocked Fenris off of his feet. He could feel dull anger threatening until Sebastian helped him up, laughing and leaving a kiss on his nose and too beautiful for anger to linger.

“Aww,” Sebastian said. “You’re all wet now. I wonder what we should do about that.”

Fenris took his hand and led him to a bit of beach where no one lingered and sharp rocks obscured them. It was his turn to get Sebastian wet, pushing him down against the sand and climbing onto his hips.

“Let me show you,” Fenris purred. Sebastian smiled, and Fenris kissed his teeth.

Llomerryn Nights (Chapter 2/3)

Chapter Two

He’d been on the run from very dangerous, very persistent people. He’d told Sebastian that much, which was more than he’d wanted to share already. What he hadn’t mentioned was that he’d wound up in Rivain, in Llomerryn, on the shore, with salt in his hair and lungs and sand crusted against his face.

He hadn’t mentioned that he’d almost died, and that he’d been saved by a stroke of good luck, and a girl with pretty golden eyes.

Isabela.

Her name was a sigh, still, in the back of his mind, or his heart, hidden secret behind his ribs. Fenris wanted to say it aloud, to tell Sebastian that the woman with the crooked smile and the callused palms and the gentle heart had been better to him than he had ever been to himself; but he couldn’t quite form the name on his tongue. Part of that was because he didn’t want Sebastian to become jealous of a memory; part of it was because he wanted to keep her name his secret. His memories with her belonged only to the two of them – he wasn’t sure if he had a right to involve someone else.

No, that was cowardly. Isabela was no secret for his heart to keep, and Sebastian would never be jealous of someone who had been so good to him.

Still, Fenris went through his story carefully.

Llomerryn Nights (Chapter 1/3)

Fenris traced his finger over the map, his other hand thrown over his eyes. Sebastian was close to him, and there was a certain energy in the air that he couldn’t describe. Excitement, nervousness, anticipation, anxiousness; both of them were prepared for the next step, but neither of them really knew for sure if they were prepared for what came after. When Sebastian made the suggestion, with his body spooned behind Fenris and his mouth close to his ear, it had seemed like a natural progression. Fenris’ toothbrush was in Sebastian’s bathroom, his clothes were folded neatly in his drawer, his socks were littering his bedroom floor – it seemed like the most logical thing to do was to take a trip together.

“Few days,” Sebastian said. “Just the two of us. I mean, if that sounds like something you’d want to do. You don’t have to, Fen. If you---“

“I want to,” Fenris said, before he’d had any time to think things through. The second the words had left him, his mind had screamed at him that it was too soon, it was too fast, there was no telling what they might find out about one another that might cause a rift between them. Granted, he knew enough, sharing a bed with him, but still. Sleeping over three nights a week wasn’t the same as spending every minute for three days together.

It wasn’t something he could bring up. Sebastian seemed excited, if a little nervous, and Fenris didn’t want to kill his enthusiasm. So, with more hesitation than his lover, Fenris picked a place at random on the map. That had been Sebastian’s idea, too. Instead of arguing over where to go, and most likely ruining the entire trip before it started, they would choose a place at random.

Sebastian kissed his ear, lightly, and wrapped his fingers around his wrist. “Let’s see, love.”

They looked down together. Fenris’ heart sped up a bit when he saw where his finger rested.  There were a million tangled up emotions and fears and thoughts; but at the core of him, was a ripple of excitement. The shore had been kind to him, once upon a time, when he’d been younger and bolder; he hoped it would be good to him again – to the both of them.

Rivain.

Grey Sky Morning (DARBB Part 2 of 2)

Title: Grey Sky Morning
Word Count: 7663
Rating: M
Warnings: Nudity, sexual content, blood, violence
Fandom: Dragon Age
Pairing: Nathaniel/Anders

Summary: With the disappearance of the Warden-Commander, Nathaniel has more than enough to occupy his thoughts; strangely, the only person he can think of is Anders. More than his lover, Anders was his friend, and Nathaniel finds it difficult to let go of him and move on. Things are only made worse when a missive arrives from Weisshaupt, summoning Nathaniel to the Fortress.

He knows precisely what the First Warden wants from him; and Nathaniel must fight a battle between his heart and his duty.

Author's Note: This was written for the Dragon Age Reverse Big Bang to accompany this lovely fanmix by itsadrizzit. The music and especially the way that the songs were put in order, evoked a strong feeling of regret, loss, grief, and that poignant, painful sense of losing someone you wanted badly to hold onto. The pairing (Nanders) was suggested by the itsadrizzit, but it was up to me, ultimately, to decide what pairing worked best with the music. For me, Nathaniel and Anders represented the tone and emotion of the fanmix extraordinarily well. I had a lot of fun writing this, and I worked very hard to get the emotion through without being overbearing. I really hope everyone, especially itsadrizzit, enjoys this story! <3

Grey Sky Morning

Part Two

~*~
Resistance had been expected, but nothing could have prepared Nathaniel for what awaited them once they left the port at Cumberland and pressed north towards the Tevinter Imperium.

Their journey, at first, was quiet enough. Fifty or so odd men and women marching through the woodlands with only their footfalls and the clink of their armor making any sound. Suspiciously quiet, Nathaniel had thought, and Bethany had echoed his concern, falling in step beside him with her eyes darting between the trees. “There’s been reports of maleficarum in these parts,” she said, hushed, as though to speak above a whisper was to invite danger. “We should keep our guard up.”

“Look behind me, little girl. We’ve a small army. I did not bring these men for their charm and good looks.”

Bethany smiled. It was small and tired, and it reminded him that she had gotten as little sleep as he had. She was a courageous girl, and a stubborn one, and he could admire those traits. Still, she prattled on about danger as though Nathaniel were truly so dim as to believe they would reach Weisshaupt without incident. He fully expected an attack, but when it came, he was surprised by it. He hadn’t expected such heavy resistance, or such powerful magic, and when they were finally done and the mages that had ambushed them lay dead or dying, nearly half of his force was decimated.

“We should have brought more mages,” Bethany said.

Grey Sky Morning

Love letters left unsent. Some confessional, some accusatory, some desperate. He had learned to live without half of his heart, but it was nothing courageous, and nothing prideful. It was only a necessity. Anders was gone, far beyond his reach, and Nathaniel couldn’t send the letters, couldn’t bleed out the poison in his veins and just let himself know some kind of peace.

So he held onto the letters, and he let the wind carry his voice across the sea to where Anders might hear him calling his name.

“One Sweet Love” - Sara Bareilles

Her hand was soft on his wound, caressing over his torn flesh, more of a balm than her magic. Fenris looked up and into her eyes, and it was over for him. He thought, If I could die now, with your face the last face I would ever see, I would die a happy man. After such a thought, how could he pretend that her touch didn’t set him on fire and her eyes didn’t melt his heart? Fenris swallowed around his pride and whispered, “Thank you.”

Bethany smiled, letting her thumb brush against his closed wound. “It’s no trouble, Fenris,” she said, “Please try to be more careful.”

Mass Effect | Old Soldiers | Shepard/Kaidan

Title: Old Soldiers
Word Count: 1800
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Nudity, mild sexual content
Disclaimer: Mass Effect (c) BioWare & EA

I really wish he’d put a shirt on, Kaidan thought. He watched Vega wander the shuttle bay, throwing punches, doing pull-ups and squats, getting sweatier and sweatier. Of course, he also watched Shepard watch Vega, and that was where the heart of the matter rested. If Kaidan had been down there alone he wouldn’t have cared if Vega had stripped down to his underwear and done a pole-dance.

Shepard was watching him though, and that was a problem. He had his eyebrow raised, which was an even bigger problem. Kaidan knew that look, and he knew that it was only a matter of time before Shepard did one of three incredibly stupid things: One, he would go up to Vega and attempt to flirt with him; Two, he would sit there for the rest of the night making vaguely animalistic noises and wiggling his eyebrows; Three, he would give up entirely on not looking like an ass and rush over to slide a credit into Vega’s jeans.

To say that Kaidan was jealous was an understatement. He had always been a jealous person. Yes, he was often accused of being boring, of being dull, of being Vanilla as the sweaty hunk beating on the punching bag loved to point out -- but he was actually an extremely passionate person. Military life had tempered him, had taken that passion and bottled it up. But looking at Shepard, Kaidan could feel that bottled energy starting to bubble. It was an itch under his skin that he couldn’t get to.

Kaidan wanted to punch him and kiss him. Neither of those things would earn him anything but a swift knee in the gut.
